However, how does it associate with Bunnies, Chicks and Eggs nowadays? Well, bunnies, eggs, chicks and Easter gifts in gardening hats are stemming from pagan. They were incorporated into the celebration of Easter separately from the Christian tradition of honoring the day Jesus Christ rose from the dead.
Easter eggs are special eggs. It is a pagan symbol of the rebirth of the Earth in celebrations of spring and was adopted by early Christians as a symbol of the resurrection of Jesus. Just as Jesus Christ broke out of the tomb on Easter morning, the yolk of the egg breaks out of its shell when cracked. The oldest tradition is to use dyed or painted chicken eggs, but a modern custom is to substitute chocolate eggs, or plastic eggs filled with confectionery such as jelly beans.
The Easter Bunny is a character depicted as a rabbit bringing Easter eggs. Rabbits are fertility symbols of antiquity. Since rabbits give birth to large litters in the early spring, these became symbols of the rising fertility of the earth. In legend, this creature brings baskets filled with colored eggs, candy and sometimes also toys to the homes of children on the night before Easter.
Hence, the tradition of making nests for the rabbit to lay its eggs soon followed. Eventually, nests became decorated baskets and colorful eggs were swapped for candy, treats and other small gifts.
